Laptops with no CD player & Palm synchronization software install

I had a question from a correspondent this morning about how to install HotSync Manager and Palm Desktop when you dont have a CD drive. This person is about to buy an Asus EEE PC running Windows XP. Here's what I recomended:

I believe that the easiest way to install Palm Desktop on Asus EEE PC which has no built-in CD or DVD drive is to use one of two possible methods detailed below:

1. Use an SD card. Download Palm desktop to another PC (from this location). Copy the install files for Palm desktop onto an expansion card (SD or MMC). Then insert the card into the EEE. Explore the card from XP on the EEE. Run the installer as normal.
2. Use an external USB CD or DVD reader attached to the EEE via USB. Take the regular CD from Palm and place it in the CD reader. Install as usual.

Regarding synchronization, I assume that the USB ports will behave just as with any other PC. Generally the easiest way to get your data to the new laptop is to ensure that your TX has all the latest data (recent HotSync). Then synchronize to your new EEE. The username (and all its data) from the TX will be replicated on the EEE.
